Kea’s World of Fairytales

For the 11th consecutive year, the Festival of Fairytales will yet again unfold  for ten whole days between the 19th to 29th of July 2013. Fairy tale heroes will pop up on beaches, in the streets, on cobbled paths, the threshing plains and around Kean springs speak of stories about the "wisdom of the world". The type of wisdom profound in its thoughtfulness and simplicity that nurtures Greek civilisation for millennia.

Thirty narrators, representatives of five international festivals, will meet for the sole purpose of telling stories together. Narrators from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Great Britain, have promised to meet on Kea to celebrate together famed and unknown parables.

This colourful initiative aims to showcase, interpret and disseminate the local cultural tradition and heritage. The audience consists of people of all ages and the places chosen for narration are of particular natural or historical significance.

The program includes performances of storytelling, music and visual arts, theatre, puppetry, shadow theatre, and book presentations all revolving tales and myths. During the Festival there will be narration and speech workshops for adults, as well as artistic expression and creativity classes for children.

The Festival of Folktales is organized by the Centre for the Study and Dissemination of Myths and Folktales under the auspices and support of the Municipality of Kea, the cooperation of the South Aegean Region and support the Foundation of Greek Scholarships. It is the oldest festival of its kind in Greece, it has an international character and is held every summer in Kea since 2003.
